PEOPLE OF SOFIA
Street photography as the story of a thousand small worlds
The city is made of a thousand small worlds that walk its streets day by day. If you dare to make the time to become an observer, you will hear parables, answers, and fears that you never suspected to find hidden in this particular configuration – a person waiting for someone (or something) on a bench in the park. The city is its people and the more we see them taken out of the context of their morning commute, of the daily rush to all sorts of things, or the bustling supermarket in the evening, the more we will find beauty and meaning in the place where we live.
People of Sofia is a project where street photography is not just a visual medium but an opportunity to get to know our fellow man, welcoming the potential protagonists we see at every street corner in Sofia.
Born in Burgas, Vihren Georgiev spent his student years in Ruse. It was at this time that he developed an interest in photography. He made an amateur photo laboratory in the basement, took part in various photography courses and local competitions. Then life "happened", he took various jobs, opened a small store and 10-12 years ago finally returned to photography after a long pause. Little by little he found himself attracted to shooting people. And then, six years ago, he created the People of Sofia website.
